Actor, Director,
Producer, Teacher,
Arts Educator.
Michael Kelly is an actor,
director, producer, teacher, and arts educator. He is the
founder and Artistic Director of Shakespeare In Action theatre
company in Toronto. His work has attracted local, national and
international media attention for its innovative work with
young audiences; garnering feature presentations on W-5,
Canada AM, TVO Imprint and C.B.C. “As It Happens.”His
directing credits include many contemporary and Shakespearean
plays and projects as well as teaching master classes for
Shakespeare's Globe theatre, London, Stratford Festival,
Canada, Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, and the Shakespeare
Globe Centre, New Zealand.”
Michael has taught acting
for such established institutes as York University, George
Brown College, Randolph Academy for the Arts, Equity Showcase
Theatre, and the National Youth Drama School, NZ.
He has recently created the
Shakespeare for Kidz summer program for young audiences as
ages, 7 –12. His current projects include creating a new show
with the Puppetmongers company of Toronto, based on the
Chinese folk tales the Adventures of the Monkey King. He is
also developing the Shakespeare For Kids Reader’s Theatre
Saturday Morning Library Club, a new series of books called
Discovering Shakespeare for Kids and dvd interactive
Shakespeare game.
Michael is a graduate of the Studio 58
acting program in Vancouver. Michael also holds an M.F.A. in
Directing from York University, Toronto.
