Shakespeare for Kids - Updated for 2008
Summer Program 2008

Serving Inter-City Youth
For over nineteen  years Shakespeare in Action has been bringing the Shakespeare Alive for young people in theatres, community centres and classrooms through our experiential approach and innovative programming. One of the highlights of our year is the Shakespeare for Kids Summer Camp. This program designed for the youngest possible learners.  This year, summer camps for kids (age 7 - 12) will be held at the following locations:

Our program allows kids from Toronto’s diverse neighborhoods to take advantage of this unique experience in personal creativity

Shakespeare for Kids:
learn to act, sing, improvise, construct costumes, build puppets and design sets. The program runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, Monday to Friday for two weeks. We provide the participants with master class level instruction delivered by highly skilled artists, working in discrete areas of theatre disciplines.

Theatre Ritual:
Engaging young people in the art of presentation and storytelling is an invigorating exercise that fosters speech-arts, promotes self-confidence and engenders well-being. By linking the participatory elements of music, voice, movement, set and costume design, to the process, we are taking these young children on a journey to discover the fundamental rituals to creating live theatre. Each company presents a final production of an abridged Shakespeare play. Parents, extended family, and members of the community are invited to attend. It could be the launching pad for a Canadian actor, writer, set designer or theatre impresario.
